Mental health awareness is a global initiative and essential to the health and wellness of all. Counselors are on the front lines of this awareness and considered essential workers. Explores the intersection of psychology and culture through such topics as the psychological experience of immigration, ethnic conflicts and the impact of violence within communities, and the relationship between individual and collective identity. While visiting during interview day is strongly encouraged, telephone or Skype interviews are available for students unable to travel to UT. There is not a minimum GRE or GPA requirement, although students with weakness in this or any other area would need to show outstanding performance in other application criteria in order to be given serious consideration.

We foster the belief that learning continues beyond graduation through participation in research and membership in professional organizations. The Counseling programs have been given the counseling profession’s highest seal of approval. The Counseling Department has met the rigorous national standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which ensures that our graduates receive a superior education. Our program educates competent, culturally aware, ethical counselors who will provide exceptional services in both public and private settings to meet the needs of a increasingly diverse society. The Recruit, Educate, Support, Evaluate, and Train (RESET) Initiative prepares students in the School Counseling concentration of the MS in Counseling program to address mental health issues in high-need urban, rural, and suburban school districts.

Of Counseling graduates were employed, continuing their education or pursuing other goals within six months of graduation. You have the option to pursue an initial teaching license (PEL) with a School Counselor endorsement. Students who are already licensed can add a School Counselor endorsement to their PEL. In May 2022, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) granted Nova Southeastern University’s School Counseling concentration “Accreditation” at the advanced-level. None of the required Reynolda Campus courses are offered in a long-distance format or at night or on weekends. All classes for the Online Campus program are offered in a long-distance, online delivery format. Since the Fall of 2012, the counseling programs in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling have been offered both on campus and online.

You will graduate ready to work cooperatively with parents, teachers, administrators, and  others in the pursuit of optimal development for all students. Therapist is an umbrella term for any mental health professional doing talk therapy, whether virtual or in-person therapy.

Our Rehabilitation program is 90% online and the MHRT/C Certificate is fully online. Whether you’re inspired to help today’s youth navigate school challenges or to support mental health for people of all ages, the Johns Hopkins Master of Science in Counseling can help you achieve your goals. And while you’ll have the freedom to build critical on-the-job skills, our faculty and partners will be by your side to offer close supervision. Achievement awards are presented to former professors and graduates who have made a significant contribution to the counseling profession. To do so, you must provide leadership in issues related to social justice, diversity, inclusion, and oppression. Master’s Degree Programs in Counseling

In Counselor Education, students are required to submit scores on the specialization examination for their concentration (GACE/PRAXIS, CRC, or NCE). In instances where a state-specific examination is required, the student can request an exception. My professors were extremely well-respected in the field of counseling, they created an environment of acceptance. Those experiences have inspired me to further education in the field of counseling. In pursuit of its goal of academic excellence, the Program seeks to develop and nurture diversity, believing that it strengthens the organization, stimulates creativity, promotes the exchange of ideas, and enriches campus life.

Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling

They are paid to students through the Office of Student Financial Assistance, based on instructions provided by the College of Graduate Studies. Fellowships are given to support a student’s graduate study and do not have a work obligation. The 63 semester hour program School Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and has “approved” status with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (American Counseling Association, 2010). The Counselor Education Program will train professional counselors who serve the mental health needs of the citizens of Georgia and the nation. The CACREP accredited College Counseling and Student Affairs specialty area is for professionals who will work in student affairs offices, including career centers, residential life, and college counseling programs. Coursework will touch on national policy, management theory, and the foundations of student affairs.

Counselor Continuing Education provides non-degree options for individuals who seek personal enrichment and renewal as well as additional educational experiences needed to obtain certification or licensure. Our Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the national accrediting body for counselor education programs.
